The Art of Enamel

Enamelling on precious metal brings colour and life with a painterly quality to our exquisite jewellery. The enamelling we use is Vitreous enamelling. Glass of many hues and tones is patiently ground and washed to a fine powder in a porcelain mortar and pestle. On specially prepared surfaces of gold, silver, and platinum we hand paint each colour on to the metal separately before firing in a kiln at high temperatures. Many layers can be added to create the effect we require.

The technique of enamelling has been developed over the centuries from its origins in China and Egypt. Today we retain the same essential skills and offer our own style, technology and romance to this irresistible technique.

The enamelling that we use works best on 10K Gold or 18K Gold. From our experience it does not work well in 14K Gold.
